The Winter’s Embrace Christmas crochet blanket pattern is a bold, cozy colorblock project designed for makers who want a stunning holiday piece without the pressure of a fixed schedule. Work one color block at a time, move at your own pace, and finish with a blanket that feels like a true handmade Christmas gift — whether you’re making it for someone else or keeping it for yourself.

The pattern is written in one standard throw size, measuring approximately 50″ x 62″ — an ideal fit for draping over a sofa, layering on a bed, or wrapping up on chilly winter evenings.
A coordinating pillow design that looks good from every side complements the blanket and creates a fully styled, elegant finished look. The pillow is a finished size of 18”.

Skill Level for the Winter’s Embrace Collection
This pattern is suitable for a comfortable beginner. It uses a simple stitch that creates a thick, textured look similar to thermal stitch—without the complexity of working an actual thermal stitch.
The design features an easy one-row repeat, making it a relaxing and approachable project. The colorblock layout adds just the right amount of variety, with regular color changes that keep the process fun and engaging from start to finish.
Stay Organized with a Full-Color Check-Off Grid
To make your crochet journey smooth and enjoyable, the blanket pattern includes a detailed full-color check-off grid. This handy tool helps you track your progress easily, so you never lose your place as you work through the color blocks and rows. Whether you’re a seasoned maker or new to colorwork, this visual guide keeps you moving confidently toward finishing your beautiful blanket.
Materials to make this blanket pattern
A Thoughtful No-Waste Design – Yarns
The Winter’s Embrace blanket is intentionally designed to use full skeins of affordable, widely available yarns—so there’s no waste and no guessing. The pattern includes a detailed color guide with options using Red Heart Super Saver, Premier Basix, and I Love This Yarn.
Whether you’re shopping from your stash or starting fresh, you’ll have everything you need to create a polished and resourceful project without leftover partial skeins.
- 7 mm crochet hook for a nice drape
- category 4 yarn (9 colors total, one each of all plus two of the lightest tones)
- stitch markers
- scissors
- tapestry needle
Materials to make a pillow
As you may expect the pillow usings nearly all the same materials as the blanket! The pillow uses a smaller hook because it does not need the drape of a blanket and a smaller hook gives more structure to your finished project.
- Category 4 yarn
- 6 mm crochet hook
- 18″ pillow insert (go up to a 20″ size if your pillow is on the flat side so you get a fullsome look)
- two stitch markers
- scissors
- tapestry needle
If buying yarn online for this project , you will need additional skeins of yarn for your pillow(s) because the blanket will use up your colorblock colors.

How long does it take to crochet the blanket?

This blanket was originally designed as a CAL with a pace of 6–7 rows per day to be completed in about 5 weeks. The pillow will take just about 2-4 days based on your available time to crochet.
