Dollar tree has yarn – Just cotton yarn review
Yes, Dollar Tree does sell yarn! Many people are surprised to find out that Dollar Tree carries yarn, but it’s true. You can find a variety of yarn options at your local Dollar Tree store.
Now, you might be wondering if the yarn at Dollar Tree is any good.
Well, the quality of the yarn can vary. Dollar Tree offers a range of yarn options, from basic acrylic yarn to cotton yarn and even now chenille. I have seen eyelash yarn and some locations.
BTW if you’ve ever wondered about mako and pima cotton (and why they are so special) check out this post.

The quality of the yarn will depend on the specific brand and type of yarn you choose. In this post I am covering Just Cotton yarn from Premier yarns sold at Dollar Tree stores. They do have others!
Dollar Tree also offers a cotton marl color in blue and sage.
Just Chenille is available in some locations but you can always get it online here. Chenille yarn is chunky but lightweight and is adorable for stuffies, home projects and blankets.
If you’re looking for affordable yarn for simple projects or crafts, Dollar Tree yarn can be a great option. It’s perfect for beginners or for those who want to experiment with different colors and textures without breaking the bank.
However, if you’re working on a more complex or intricate project that requires high-quality yarn, you may want to consider investing in a higher-end brand. Dollar Tree yarn may not have the same durability or softness as more expensive yarn options.
The top end cotton yarn is mako cotton. I go over this luxe yarn in this post.
I am a cotton yarn queen. I try every brand I can get my hands on. When I saw that Dollar Tree had yarn I had to stop in my tracks and see what a dollar (1.25 now) would buy me in the world of yarn.

I realize the organization in some of the locations isn’t perfect. If you dig around in the bins of premier yarn and premier just cotton yarn there is some good stuff to be found.
Colors are limited in these yarns however, the colors they do have are very usable. Nothing too specific but rather they seem to be intended for mass interest. This gives us all higher likelihood to be able to enjoy what is on offer in the dollar tree yarn bins.

Dollar tree yarns review
What is it? It’s the well-known Premier brand cotton yarn (there is an acrylic version also at Dollar Tree but I haven’t tried it yet). That gave me confidence.
Let’s look at HOW MUCH yarn is in the skein. Typically cotton yarn is sold in 3.5 ounce balls. This yarn from Premier just cotton is 2.1 ounces and 104 yards. It is slightly thinner than other category 4 cotton yarns are.
I worked up a dishcloth with the yarn and I have to say it’s nice. It doesn’t split, it’s softer than a Lily’s Sugar and Cream and makes a flexible stitch. It would work just fine for a summer beach coverup , kitchen items or even cotton tote-style bags.
A yarn is not a value if we end up finding it difficult to work with or feels rough on the fingers.
Just keep in mind the size of the skein. Depending how long you’ve been crocheting or knitting it may be a habit to just grab 1, 2 or 3 balls because you know how much you need for a project. with these you will need about 40% more. It is the dollar store so no biggie, right?
Some value cotton yarns split and can feel stiff. None of that was the case with this yarn.
The colors in store are limited as is to be expected. I liked this corn husk yellow, a green that is somewhere between lime and sage and a soft natural. As I mentioned above, very agreeable colors for the masses.
Basics like white and off white are readily available.

You can purchase 6 of one color online and have it shipped to your store and find a better color selection that way if you need more than one or two balls for a project.
What can you make with Premier Just Cotton yarn?
Dollar Tree cotton yarn is also suitable for small home decor projects. You can create decorative coasters, plant pot covers, or even small baskets to organize your space.
Market bags and coasters would also be good projects with Premier Just cotton. If you are considering crocheting a market bag I would direct you to some of my no stretch crochet bag stitch options so it doesn’t hang to your knees once you put in a few lemons and a head of lettuce!
The affordability of the yarn allows you to experiment with different colors and patterns without breaking the bank.
I have a whole collection of cotton yarn projects for the kitchen and all the patterns are absolutely free! Check out the kitchen crochet projects!
Is Dollar Tree yarn a good value?
If you are a price shopper , I made a chart of some popular yarns in the US showing price per yard highlighting the Dollar Tree premier Just Cotton yarn (and for funzies I put in the luxury pima cotton by Wool and the Gang) so you can see in plain black and white what kind of deal the Premier just cotton yarn at the Dollar Tree is.
These things add up for larger projects like sweaters and blankets. I love a cotton blanket in the summer! Or maybe you are trying my best selling pattern called the sweet citrus summer cotton cardigan.
Pricing shown is based on manufacturer’s website non sale price and shipping isn’t include if you can’t find it locally and have to order online.
Overall, Dollar Tree yarn can be a budget-friendly choice for basic projects or for those who are just starting out with knitting or crocheting. It’s always a good idea to check the quality and feel of the yarn before making a purchase, as the selection can vary from store to store. So next time you’re at Dollar Tree, don’t forget to check out their yarn section and see what treasures you can find!
