Thoughtful ways to show someone you care for them

Sometimes showing people how much you care takes a little bit more thought. While gifts are good in theory, not everyone can afford them in the current economy. And, sometimes it’s the little things that mean the most.
Physical gifts can be just another thing to find a place for, dust, or create clutter. Thinking outside the box is what this article is about!
Let’s take a look at some of the ways you can show the people you love how much you care about them.

Take a chore or task off their plate
We all lead busy lives and sometimes there’s nothing more appealing than the chance to not have to do anything for the day. This is also a welcome “gift” to someone who is dealing with overwhelm and/ or depression. Day-to-day chores fall to the side more often than not when the mindset is low.
So, if you can, take something off their plate to make their lives easier. You might choose to do their chores for them so they can relax when they get home from work, or you might even take on the task of taking their shoes to be shined. Watch their children for a few hours so they can be home alone (or go off and do something they couldn’t do with children).
Your mom will appreciate this too! You surely know which chore(s) she dislikes the most. Taking this chore over for her a time or two will be hugely appreciated.
Either way, it won’t go unnoticed and your special someone will get the chance to sit back and enjoy some peace.
Plan a dream day
Another fantastic way of showing someone how much they mean to you is by surprising them with their dream day.
This could be anything from booking an experience day for them or finding a lord of the rings movies streaming service and spending the day snuggled up in front of the TV. If you’re on a tight budget check Google for free things to do nearby. You may be surprised by what is available and something that would be new and fun for you too!
If you do have a budget consider experiences you can do with your mom or send her with her bestie to do things like vineyard tour (many states have vineyards believe it or not!), visit a state or national park, cooking classes, crafting classes, spa or nature retreat, make your own jewelry class where you leave with something you can wear forever and think of each other when you put it on.
Giving them the chance to do something they enjoy will give them a rare opportunity to forget about the stresses of work or the responsibilities they have and truly enjoy themselves.

A handmade gift is the ultimate personal gift
If you really want to give them something but can’t afford it or would rather not spend any money, then why not consider making them something by hand?
Handmade gifts are the epitome of love from the heart, and sometimes they mean more than expensive store-bought items.
You might choose to make them a card with a handwritten poem and have it include a specific fond memory, or you could make them a hamper of all of their favorite things. Even take that picnic hamper to a park and spend a day out in the fresh air with them creating new memories.
If you crochet I have a post of things you can crochet with scrap yarn so you can use what you have. Many of the items on the list make great gifts.
This wreath is made with leftover yarn and Dollar Tree supplies!
Cook / meal prep for them one day if you know they don’t like to cook or don’t have the time.
Whatever you choose, handmade gifts are personal and will go a long way with your loved one.
Say the powerful words
Finally, sometimes the best way of showing someone that you care and appreciate them is simply by telling them!
If you want to show more support to a friend in depression, the Mayo clinic suggests one step is to express your willingness to help. You can do this by setting up appointments, going along with them, and attending family therapy sessions.
Moms can feel “forgotten” when their adult children move away and don’t need them daily anymore so this act of a loving verbal expression can be powerful especially when someone is feeling low or underappreciated – tell her today!
While we as humans can communicate intelligently, many of us fail to do the simple thing of telling the people we love how much we love them – and it’s so easy! It doesn’t have to be romantic or a huge declaration. A simple “I love you” or “Thank you for everything you do” means more than any kind of gift, day out or chore taken off their plate.
