The yarn shown is one you all have loved in my four color method crochet plaid blanket pattern. It is Caron blossom cakes in the color Tide pool. It is a category 4 yarn cotton acrylic blend.
Using category 4 yarn, this blanket works up with a soft, flowing drape while maintaining a cozy warmth. Whether you’re looking for a meditative crochet project or a beautiful handmade gift, this pattern is both satisfying and fun to create. If you want a heavy weighted-feeling cotton blanket use 100% soft cotton yarn. The dense stitch will provide weight while keeping you cool all summer or those hot flash nights. In the past I have recommended the linked single crochet stitch to work up a heavy cotton blanket but the siren stitch will allow even more weight in your finished blanket.

Can a True Beginner Make This Crochet Blanket Pattern?
You may be surprised but yes! This blanket uses only single crochet, half double crochet and double crochet stitches to create the fishtail look. This his how I named it Siren’s Song. Coupled with this mermaid colorway I think it’s perfect.
In the video tutorial, I exhaustively go over stitch placement during your setup row so your result looks just like this. Plus in the written PDF I have two pages of stitch image tutorials. So it is foolproof!
Once you work the setup row you will likely find this a calming easy (and fun) stitch to work. As you see it coming together it’s very satisfying.
The rows work into neat straight edges so working the border is a breeze!

The materials lineup is very simple, so it’s just the stitch that shines. no extra frills!

- 7-8 mm hook or size needed to achieve drape from swatch
