The Siren’s Song is a beginner crochet blanket pattern built around a one-row repeat fishtail stitch that creates gorgeous dense texture with no holes — making it ideal for baby blankets, cozy throws, and everything up to a king-sized bedspread. Despite the impressive finished look, it uses only single crochet, half double crochet, and double crochet stitches throughout the body, which any beginner can master with the included video tutorial.
The pattern works up in a satisfying rhythm once your setup row is complete. The edges stay naturally straight and neat, making the finishing border simple to work. It is fully customizable to any size, and a yarn requirements chart is included in the PDF so you know exactly how much yarn to buy before you start.

The yarn shown is one you all have loved in my four color method crochet plaid blanket pattern. It is Caron blossom cakes in the color Tide pool. It is a category 4 yarn cotton acrylic blend.
Using category 4 yarn, this blanket works up with a soft, flowing drape while maintaining a cozy warmth. Whether you’re looking for a meditative crochet project or a beautiful handmade gift, this pattern is both satisfying and fun to create. Working a swatch along with me in the pattern beginning will help you determine the perfect yarn and hook size combination for a delicious drape in your finished item.

If you want a heavy weighted-feeling cotton blanket use 100% soft cotton yarn. The dense stitch will provide weight while keeping you cool all summer or those hot flash nights. In the past I have recommended the linked single crochet stitch to work up a heavy cotton blanket but the siren stitch will allow even more weight in your finished blanket.
One thing to note: this blanket does use a lot of yarn, so be sure to check the yarn requirements chart before you get started! Grab your favorite worsted-weight yarn, and let’s crochet a stunning, timeless blanket together.

Can a True Beginner Make This Crochet Blanket Pattern?
You may be surprised but yes! This blanket uses only single crochet, half double crochet and double crochet stitches to create the fishtail look. This his how I named it Siren’s Song. Coupled with this mermaid colorway I think it’s perfect.

In the video tutorial, I exhaustively go over stitch placement during your setup row so your result looks just like this. Plus in the written PDF I have two pages of stitch image tutorials. So it is foolproof!
Once you work the setup row you will likely find this a calming easy (and fun) stitch to work. As you see it coming together it’s very satisfying.
The rows work into neat straight edges so working the border is a breeze!

Other yarns that look like the Caron Blossom Cakes yarn?
I have found some labeled for other brands however it is the same yarn. (Use any cat 4 yarn you like)
Cascata from Hobbi (if it’s not on sale it goes on sale periodically) see my Hobbi yarn experience here on youtube
Cotton to the core on Amazon. This is the same cotton acrylic blend as Blossom cakes and Cascata. It comes in several shades but I have had my eye on this orange variant for several weeks now.
