Not only does this border enhance the overall design, but it also helps even out edges, making your blanket look clean and balanced. Plus, it’s versatile—you can use it on baby blankets, throws, or even large afghans. It’s an easy way to take your crochet work from great to absolutely stunning!

Stitches used to crochet a simple border pattern
This border uses beginner-friendly stitches. (see other beginner friendly textured crochet stitches)
- single crochet
- half double crochet
- yarn over slip stitch
If you’re new to the yarn-over slip stitch, it creates more texture than a regular slip stitch simply by yarning over before slipping the stitch. I used this in my rosemary crochet wrap pattern to add a beautiful ropey detail that shows even through fluffy, fuzzy yarn.

To make this simple border, work it as follows.
