Detoxifying DIY salt scrub ingredient

One key ingredient to add to your homemade salt scrub is charcoal. Charcoal has become increasingly popular in skincare due to its ability to draw out impurities and toxins from the skin. By incorporating charcoal into your salt scrub, you can enhance its cleansing and detoxifying properties.

I happen to like charcoal in my scrubs but you can leave it out. It doesn’t impact the texture.
DIY Salt scrub ingredients
To make your no dip DIY salt scrub combine the following per the instructions in next section:
- 2/3 coconut oil
- 2/3 c. kosher salt (this will help exfoliate)
- 1 tsp xanthan gum (stops the drip)
- 2 tsp charcoal powder
- 1 Tbsp honey
- 10 drops essential oil (optional). Avoid lemon as it can sting the skin.
Coconut oil, because it firms up at room temperature is ideal for this to help stop the drippy natural of scrubs. It will give you time to smooth it between your hands evenly while it melts to your body temperature.
Xanthan gum adds additional stabilization.

Mix up your salt scrub
Xanthan gum is what will give us the gummy spreadable texture that gives you more time to work it into your skin before it drops off to the shower floor. I have it on hand because I follow a low carb diet and it is readily available online here or most grocery stores in the health area or the flour and sugar aisle.

What to know about Xantham Gum? It does not need heat to thicken and it thickens/gels up on contact so I have a method to prevent clumping when mixing this.
How to mix your detoxifying DIY salt scrub
While coconut oil melts in a double boiler, in a small bowl combine half the salt, xanthan gum and charcoal powder.
Add honey to coconut oil and when mixture is 90% melted take off the heat. Stir in remaining salt then add the charcoal xanthan salt mixture and combine well. add essential oil to your liking. I use about 20 drops for this amount of scrub.
Put in wide mouth dish/jar/container and cool. Break up cooled mixture with a spoon if you like before putting it in your shower.
With this no-drip DIY salt scrub with charcoal, you can enjoy the benefits of a luxurious spa-like treatment in the comfort of your own home. Say goodbye to messy scrubs and hello to a clean, refreshed, and glowing skin!
