The Manhattan — Chunky Crochet Cardigan Pattern
A modern, city-ready layer that’s cozy, polished, and shockingly flattering.
Announcing the first pattern of the In The City Collection. These are thoughtfully designed crochet patterns that have a bold statement while keeping fashion and function in mind.
This chunky sweater pattern, called The Manhattan, solves the problem of being shapeless, oversized and generally unflattering. Thoughtful details to make it your favorite fall and winter sweater coat.
This is an intermediate pattern: Find your crochet skill analysis here
For this pattern, I recommend Premier Anti Pilling Chunky bamboo acrylic blend. This is a lighter weight chunky yarn with an elegant finish and impeccable softness all thanks to the addition of bamboo. I did a review of this yarn on youtube. Also it will not pill up! It is beautiful wash after wash, even getting softer with your first wash.

Why you’ll love it
- Flattering silhouette: hugs the shoulders, then relaxes through the body to skim—not swallow—your shape (especially kind to apple & pear figures).
- Built for longevity: the Manhattan stitch is chosen to hold shape—no slouching out after a season.
- Statement details that work: snug cuffs block drafts, rolled ribbed collar adds drama + warmth, real pockets with a smooth, seamless look.
- Guided, not guessing: it’s a big pattern with lots of moving parts, but it’s broken into clear steps with video check-ins exactly where you need them.
- Customize as you go: adjust length, sleeve depth, collar height, and pocket placement with built-in tips.

Customization menu
The ability to customize garments is why I started to become a crochet designer. All my garments are very specific about how and where your fit can be customized with regard to length and width (size) for a flattering fit. I am a special size so I understand the importance of this.
For this pattern:
- Body length ( → mid-thigh for petite, average and tall)
- Sleeve length (bracelet → full)
- Collar height (subtle roll → dramatic)
- Pocket size & placement (or omit)
