Amigurumi crochet owl pattern
Meet Owen the crochet owl. The wise and adorable wizard looks great on my desk.
About 2 years ago I designed this graduation gnome, a similar 12″ height size and funny enough, I found I loved having it on my work desk. One of those things you don’t realize you enjoy until it is part of your everyday life I suppose.

Now I have Owen! Probably (and hopefully) you notice how prominent his eyes are. They have life! Depth and sparkle was all very intentional with this design. After all own eyes are to me the most striking part of an owl.
Materials to make a crochet owl
To make this cutie you will need:
- 4 & 4.5 mm crochet hook
- tapestry needle
- Category 4 yarn in several colors ( for the body I used sugar n’ cream in jute)
- Ruler or tape measure
- safety eyes
- scissors
- polyfil or other stuffing (see this post on polyfil alternatives)
- Floral wire for hat brim and arms
- Twig for staff
- Tapestry needle
- Plus some extra crafting items easily found on amazon or your craft store.

I have added floral wire in a mid weight (18-28 gauge) to keep the brim stiff and to be able to position the wings/arms. Tip the lower the floral wire gauge, the stiffer it is. 8 and 16 gauge is more of a stem wire and not as bendy.
Crochet big owl eyes
I put special attention on designing an owl with big prominent eyes that have life rather than the sometimes flat look of just snapping in safety eyes. The eyes are framed and lash detail is stitched in for depth. This is all done by hand with a tapestry need and it just takes about 10 minutes. I was able to do it very quickly.
Owen also has a craggy wizard hat with a stiff brim you can shape to add personality.
I used a 10″ twig for his staff but you can wrap a thick bubble tea style straw with yarn and crochet a bauble for the top.

Skill Level to crochet Owen the Owl
To make this project you should be comfortable working in the round and flat back and forth rows.
Dexterity with a tapestry needle is needed for detail work. A comfortable and experienced beginner can make Owen.
