Pattern is for a comfortable beginner.
For this pattern I used category 1 cotton yarn but you can work with thicker yarn – just work by section measurement and not row count. See graphic further down post to do this.

Materials for fall crochet table runner

Size shown is 20″ long x 14.5″ for a centerpiece mat
- 3.75 and 3.5 mm crochet hooks
- category 1 yarn in 4 colors (shown, Hobbii friends 8/4 cotton in mustard (28), Walnut(15), Cognac (17) and dark teal (97) I used 2 balls of mustard and one each of the other three shades for the size shown. Each ball is 50 gr, 174 yards
- tapestry needle
- scissors
- ruler or tape measure
- blocking is recommended

Paintbox cotton dk – great color selection, I really like this cotton it’s just a bit thicker than the hobbii brand I used in the sample image.

sc- single crochet, skst -skip stitch, hdc – half double crochet, fphdc – front post half double crochet, dc- double crochet, slst – slip stitch, rs -right side, ws – wrong side

Crochet table runner pattern
Using the 3.75 mm hook and deep brown yarn (or size suited for your yarn if not using cat 1 yarn) Chain an even number of stitches that will be the length of your project.
Use the measurement method for your custom size or follow the row counts in the pattern below to create a 20″ long x 14.5″ wide centerpiece style as shown Example my starting chain is 112 for the 20″ length using 3.75 hook cat 1 yarn.
Row 1: in second ch from hook, hdc across row. ch 1 turn
Row 2-3: hdc across. ch 1 turn
Row 4: sc in first, fphdc across row working sc in last st. ch 1 turn. bring up rusty red or color 2. This section will measure 1″
Row 5: hdc in first, sk next,* sc, hdc in next, skst*, repeat until 1 st remains, sc in last. ch 1 turn.
Row 6-13: repeat row 5, bring up color 3 (teal) at end of row 13 This section will measure 1.5″
Row 14-28: repeat row 5. Bring up color 4 (center stripe color) at end of row 28. This section will measure 2.5″

Row 29: (rs) hdc across row.
Row 30: (ws) sc in first, fphdc across row working sc in last st. ch 1 turn
Row 31-59: repeat row 5. This section will measure 5″
Row 60: (ws) single crochet across row, ch 1 turn
Row 61: (rs) Hdc across row. ch 1 turn
Row 62: ( ws) sc in first, fphdc across row working sc in last st. ch 1 turn bring up color 3 (teal ) at the end of the row.
Row 63-77: repeat row 5. Bring up color two (rusty red) at end of row 77. This section will measure 2.5″
Row 78-85: repeat row 5. Bring up color one (deep brown) at end of row 86. This section will measure 1.5″
Row 86: (ws) sc across row, ch 1 turn
Row 87: (rs) Hdc across row. ch 1 turn
Row 88: (ws) sc in first, fphdc across row finishing with a sc. ch 1 turn.
Row 90-93: hdc across row. This section will measure 1″. cut yarn and secure end.
Move on to border.

Crochet wave border
**note, if you’re using category 3 or category 4 yarn work hdc instead of sc for your base row
Work along the long sides of table runner.
Switch to 3.5 mm hook. With right side of project facing you, attach border color with a slipknot and sc, sc again then work 3 sc (hdc if using thicker yarn) in next three sts.
Then chain 4. Turn work so back is facing you. slip stitch into top of first stitch. ch 1 then work 7 dc into the ch 4 space.
Sc in next stitch, then sc 3 more. ch 4 then turn work and work the slip stitch into the area between the first of the 4 sc you just made and the space of the last7 dc cluster as shown. ch 1 turn, work 7 dc into the new ch-4 space. sc in next stitch.
Repeat to end of row, repeat on opposite side.




Weave in all ends.
Blocking is recommended for the centerpiece style shown.
