Elevate your crochet hat game with this spiral stitch
There’s something magical about a crochet hat that mimics the beauty of knit stitches—especially when combined with a stunning spiral design! This brim-up crochet hat pattern is the perfect blend of texture, warmth, and modern style, making it a must-make for your fall and winter wardrobe.

Using a comfortable, meditative stitch, this pattern is designed for confident beginners and beyond. The spiral effect creates a sleek, seamless look, while the knit-like texture gives it a high-end, store-bought feel—but with the joy of being handmade!

To get the most visual impact, choose a category 4 (worsted weight) gradient yarn. The gradual color changes enhance the spiral effect, making your finished hat look effortlessly sophisticated. And for the perfect finishing touch? A luxe faux fur pom pom adds a cozy, on-trend vibe.
For this pattern I used Loops & Threads Facettes yarn in Violette. This is a roving style yarn that can be a little tricky because it’s very difficult to pull out stitches. Unlike plied yarn, the fibers are wild and free so there is no containing them ! They easily tangle onto each other so be careful with your stitches.
You will also need a 5 mm crochet hook, a stitch marker comes in handy and the of the usual suspects, scissors and tapestry needle.

How long does it take to make a spiral crochet hat?

This hat works up in just a couple of days (give it a week if you don’t have a lot of time to crochet on a day to day basis), making it a fantastic project for gifting, selling at craft fairs, or keeping for yourself. Whether you’re a seasoned crocheter or looking to expand your skills, this pattern is a relaxing and rewarding make that you’ll reach for again and again.
Of course I have a full video tutorial to help you get the stitches just right.
Pattern includes a guide to create four sizes:
- child’s age 6-10
- young adult small

- adult large
