Peace of mind is the ultimate way to relaxation
The not so fun things in life being left undone can leave you in a constant state of panic or worry. In this post I want to cover some of these loose ends , that once you have them taken care of, will bring you satisfaction and peace of mind.
You can think of this as doing your future self a favor!
Table of Contents
1. Keeping track of auto-billing on subscribed services
Just yesterday I was talking to my cousin about a cable tv series I turned her on to. She is viewing it on Netflix and asked where it originally aired. We ended up down a rabbit hole of all the streaming services available now and keeping up with them. I explained how I keep track on a calendar with a reminder to let me know when I need to cancel. It only took me one time to realize I had been being charged for 9 months for a service I had forgotten I was subscribed to! Never again would I let that happen.

I use google calendar and add the specific service that should be cancelled 48 hours before and include my log in info in the notes.
2. The Magic of Auto-Pay
On the subject of automatic charges, for monthly necessity bills like utilities and other services auto pay is a godsend.
Ever had your power cut off during your favorite TV show because you forgot to pay the bill? Set up auto-pay and never face the wrath of missed payments again. It’s like having a financial assistant who never sleeps or takes coffee breaks.
3. Insurance Check-Up
Do a quick run-through of your insurance policies (or consider if you need additional insurance for say, pets, special home needs, etc). Yes, all of them. It’s about as fun as watching paint dry, but much like the right shade of eggshell white, having the right coverage can bring peace of mind. Make sure you’re not paying for what you don’t need or lacking what you do. Future You will thank you when you accidentally back into a fancy car or when your basement turns into a swimming pool!
4. Password Managers for the Forgetful
Still using your pet’s name followed by ‘123’ for every login? Time for a password manager. Not only will it keep your accounts safer than Fort Knox, but it’ll also prevent the dreaded password reset loop that we all despise. Secure, simple, and it makes you feel like a hacker without any of the illegal shenanigans.

5. The Digital Declutter
Recently I have made a concerted effort when a subscription email comes in rather than just putting it on “read” or auto deleting it, I go in and unsubscribe if it is one I don’t open and look at. I have a handful I love to get and devour every time the company emails me. All the rest, GONE.
You can simplify this if you’d prefer to just get it over with as a single task by dedicating an hour to unsubscribing from things you don’t read. Your inbox will be as Zen as a monk, and you’ll actually see emails you care about. As for your desktop, if your wallpaper hasn’t seen the light of day since 2005, it’s time to tidy up those icons.
6. Meal Prep Like a Boss
Even if you’re like me working from home, you will appreciate the value of meal prepping. I LOVE to cook everything I eat but I don’t have time to make 3 meals every day. I do most days but it does cut into my productivity (it is a nice break from sitting and typing!)

You don’t have to go full meal-prep Sunday with color-coded containers for every day of the week (unless that’s your jam), but planning meals in advance can save last-minute grocery runs and unhealthy takeout. Imagine the serenity of knowing what’s for dinner every night—bliss.

7. Emergency Kit Assembly
I was fortunate to not get covid-19 (not yet anyway) but when lockdown began I had all sorts of thing gathered for what I may need if I became ill. This is the same idea for other types of emergencies that may come up. I am not talking doomsday prep but natural disasters that happen in your area.

Have a power bank and rechargeable and battery powered lights stored in the same place so you know right where they are if needed. Would having a generator be helpful? Your fire extinguisher is in working order. You know where your shelters are if a hurricane or tornado damages your home.
Have a medical kit of supplies stored together for bumps and scrapes and drinking water along with canned food items.
8. Sort Your Social Media
Is your social media chaotic? Still friends with people you met once at a party in 2010? Time to purge. Keep your feeds filled with content that inspires, entertains, or uplifts you. Social media should be your happy place, not a pit of despair. I like to follow cats, crochet and people who dance. It’s just fun when I log in! People who post complaining, nope. I don’t need anyone burdening me with their negative mindset.
9. Peace of Mind with Life Estate Deeds
If you’re not a legal eagle, here’s a fun one: life estate deeds. No, it’s not a new reality show about medieval monarchs. A life estate deed allows you to pass on your property to your heirs while you’re still alive and kickin’, avoiding the usual post-mortem drama. Get this sorted, and you can lounge on your deck chairs knowing your believed is taken care of if this is something you may need to do in the near future.
Tackling these life admin tasks now can turn your every day into a smoother, cooler ride. And who knows? You might just find yourself with enough free time to actually learn how to make those color-coded meal prep containers—or at least watch someone else do it on YouTube.
