Gift wrapping jams, jellies and candle jars
When you’ve taken the time to make homemade jams, jellies, or preserves, they deserve a little presentation magic. A simple piece of fabric, ribbon, or twine can turn an ordinary jar into a heartfelt gift — rustic, elegant, and ready for giving.

In this video, I’ll show you how to wrap your Ball jars and canning jars using fabric squares or fat quarters to create that charming, polished yet handmade-style finish. You’ll see easy ways to mix textures and colors — from floral cottons and linen scraps to bits of lace or burlap — all tied up with twine, raffia, or velvet ribbon.
Whether you’re gifting homemade strawberry jam, spiced apple butter, or a batch of cozy holiday marmalade, these wrapping ideas make each jar feel special. It’s a simple, creative way to add warmth and personality to your kitchen gifts — no craft store supplies required.

Materials You’ll Need

You don’t need fancy supplies — just a few simple items you probably already have in your craft drawer or kitchen.
• Fabric squares or fat quarters:
Cotton, linen, or lightweight canvas work best. Try florals, ginghams, or seasonal prints for a cottage-style look.
• Scissors or pinking shears:
Pinking shears give a pretty zigzag edge that prevents fraying.

• Twine, ribbon, or raffia:
Mix textures for a handmade feel — twine for rustic, satin ribbon for elegant, raffia for a natural look. I use my crochet stars for a boho look.
• Tags or labels (optional):
Add handwritten notes or vintage-style labels for a personal touch.
• Your filled and sealed jars:
Any size works — from half-pints for jam to wide-mouth jars for preserves.
Fat quarters are 18″ x 22″ so if you’re using a floursack towel or tissue paper fold in ends/sides to approximate a fat quarter size.

For this version I used my crochet snowflake boho ornament and gift topper here. Pair that with tissue paper (be careful with folding it so it doesn’t tear).
Using fabric like fat quarters or tea towels is not only charming and rustic—it’s also reusable and eco-friendly. The wrapping becomes part of the gift itself! This approach makes your handmade item feel even more thoughtful and personal.
Whether you’re wrapping up summer jams, holiday candles, or small-batch bath salts, this method works for any jar gift. And your recipient will feel like they’re unwrapping something truly special.

How to Wrap Your Jam & Jelly Jars
Step 1: Cut Your Fabric.
Fat quarters are 18″ x 22″ so if you’re using a floursack towel or tissue paper fold in ends/sides to approximate a fat quarter size.
Step 2: Center and Smooth.
Place the jar lid in the middle of your fabric square. Drape the fabric evenly around the top so it falls smoothly.
Step 3: Tie Securely.
Wrap your twine or ribbon around the neck of the jar twice and tie it snugly. Adjust the fabric folds until they fall neatly.
Step 4: Add Finishing Touches.
Attach a gift tag, dried orange slice, cinnamon stick, or sprig of herbs for a seasonal touch.
Step 5: Display or Gift!
Arrange your wrapped jars in a basket or box for gifting, or line them up on your kitchen shelf for a lovely homemade display.
